Mapping the Text: Strategies to Move from Comprehension to Interpretation
This session focuses on reading as a tool for developing language proficiency and (inter)cultural competence. It targets AP Italian students as well as college students with an intermediate/advanced level of proficiency in Italian. A variety of pre-reading, reading, and post-reading activities engage students with the text while guiding them from comprehension to analysis and interpretation to production. Students can sharpen the interpretive mode of communication by interpreting written authentic texts, practice interpersonal skills by taking part in small groups and class discussion and enhance presentational skills by presenting their ideas orally and in writing. Moreover, they are encouraged to use their strengths in one mode to support another.
